Anyone that knows me knows that I have loved to read since I first learned how. I am starting a new series on the blog called #MacysMustReads where I will be sharing the books that I have read each season, along with a quick synopsis and rating. This summer I read some fiction and some nonfiction, but here are my four favorites:

  • A Spark of Light - Jodi Piccoult

    • Jodi Piccoult has been a favorite of mine for years and years, and this book is one of her finest. When a gunman enters a Women’s Center, a police hostage negotiator is called in, only to discover that his fifteen year old daughter is inside the Center. This thrilling story counts down backward to reveal how each person arrived at the Center that fateful day.

      7/10 stars

  • Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens

    • I’m a sucker for a dual storyline and this is one of the best. Switching back and forth between a young girl growing up in the marsh of North  Carolina and a murder mystery in the same town years later, this book was everything I needed on a warm summer night.

      7.5/10 stars

  • My Oxford Year - Julia Whelan

    • I had a “favorite book” at the top of my list until the day I picked up this one. A young American girl heads to Oxford University for the year, but what she learns is a lot more than English literature. With twists and turns I never saw coming, I envision this book being at the very top of my list for years to come.

      10/10 stars

  • The Lucky Few - Heather Avis

    • Heather Avis does it all. As a mother to three adopted children, two of them with Down syndrome, she challenges us all to remember that it is God who is in control. As Heather says, “It’s only the lucky few that recognize that the most beautiful things in this life are often found in the differences.”

      8/10 stars
