Literati Kids x Macy Gilson Part Two

If you follow my blog, you’ll know how excited I was when Literati reached out to invite me to become an ambassador. Literati is the premier children’s book subscription and it delivers age and developmentally appropriate books to your child based on recommendations from experts. Once you sign up for a club, you will receive five books every month (and some free gifts, too!) to try out at home. If you and your child love the books, you can choose to purchase them, and if you don’t, you can send them right back in the Literati box they arrived in. Literati has taken all of the guess work out of not only selecting developmentally appropriate books for your child, but also the hassle of buying and returning books depending on your child’s preferences. In case you missed my last post, you can read more about exactly how Literati works, as well as learn more about each book club, so you can choose the best club for your child. May is Better Hearing and Speech Month and as a speech language pathologist, I’m celebrating all month long by raising awareness for healthy speech and language development. I’m so excited to show you how I incorporated books from my May Literati box into speech therapy with my students!

Each Literati box has a new theme and this month’s theme was This Kaleidoscope World. Included with each box is a personalized postcard that explains the theme and gives insight into the thoughtfulness behind each box, as well as a poster with an illustration to go with the theme. In addition, each box has themed book stickers with your child’s name to place in the books you choose to keep.

I chose to join Club Sprout and the first book in my box was Guess the Animals. It is a lift-the-flap book which makes it perfect for not only working on language skills, but fine motor skills, as well! Each page has lots of animals with a description of each. Your child can guess which animal it is and then lift the flap to see the answer. The next book Literati sent me was Where’s Jane? by the Jane Goodall Institute. It’s a search-and-find book, but it’s also a wonderful tool to help practice labeling and answering wh- questions, such as “Who likes to eat bananas?” or “What’s under the rock?” It’s the perfect book to read before going to the zoo or aquarium. The next book, What Would You Do In a Book About You?, was my favorite from the box! It is an inspiring rhyming book that encourages children to chase their dreams. In therapy, I used with a younger elementary student to work on rhyming words and prepositions, but it is so versatile that I was also able to use it with a middle schooler to work on oral and written sentence structure. This is sure to please not just your little ones, but your older kids, too! The next book, Who Loves the Dragon?, is a follow up to Don’t Wake the Dragon, which is already in my home library, so I was thrilled to see this included in this month’s box! I love this book because it incorporates movement. The pages have phrases such as, “wave goodbye,” “blow a kiss,” or “keep marching” which make this book a perfect tool to work on following directions. You can also use this book to learn about regulating emotions - just like your child will help Dragon do in the story! The final book in my box was Color and Draw and this is NOT your average coloring book. There are prompts on each page for your child to follow as they move through the pages. It strikes a great balance between structure and imagination and it is sure to please a variety of ages.

Besides it being SO fun to open up a box of books each month, the best part about a Literati subscription is how thoughtfully curated each box is. In just this one box, I received five different types of books - a coloring book, a lift-the-flap book, a search-and-find book, a rhyming book and a picture book. This will expose your child to all the different types of literature - and take the guess work out for you, because experts have already chosen for you!

Summer is the perfect time to sign up for a Literati subscription because your child will be out of the classroom and spending all their time at home. This is a great way to keep the learning going all summer long! If you’re interested, you can click HERE to receive 25% off your first box! I can’t wait to hear all of the unique ways you use your Literati books!
