My Instagram Fam | Down syndrome

October is #DownSyndromeAwarenressMonth and to help raise awareness, I am sharing some of my favorite accounts that share about Down syndrome. I started the #MyInstagramFam blog series to share my favorite Instagram accounts in a certain niche, as so far, I have shared the following accounts:

Disability Awareness Speech and Language NICU Moms

I’ve been sharing about Down syndrome all month, so perhaps you have already found these accounts, but if not, I urge to to follow along! As I’ve said before, we don’t just celebrate the joys of Down syndrome during October…we shout the worth of our friends with Down syndrome all year long! To join in, click on each name to go to their Instagram account.

  1. @theluckyfew - I’ll be honest, this account is the OG Down syndrome awareness account. Heather and her husband, Josh, have three beautiful kids, and two of them have Down syndrome. Heather also has a podcast with fellow Down syndrome mamas Mercedes Lara and Micha Boyett called The Lucky Few Podcast (you can check it out here!)

  2. @somethingalittleextra - Joshua and his sweet mama, Steffi, hold a very special place in my heart because they were the very first people to let me share their own story with my little community. Joshy is our #HomieWithAnExtraChromie and pretty soon, he will take on his newest title of big brother!

  3. @downwiththenashes - Meagan and her son, Asher (and their family) are celebrating the joys of Down syndrome one photo at a time - and by celebrate, I mean CELEBRATE! PS - I’m going LIVE on Instagram with Meagan this week!

  4. @justwhenyouthinkshesdown - Y’ALL Amber and her sweet girl Ami are taking the social media world by storm as they advocate for ALL children with Down syndrome, especially POC, who are often left out of disability conversations. I have to say, Amber and her five kids have the greatest TikTok/Reels of all time…I would LOVE to live in the Rojas house!

  5. @our_extraordinary_edward - There is so much unexpected that comes with a Down syndrome diagnosis, but as Eddie’s mom, Liz, says, “Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous in the end.” Eddie gives a glimpse of Heaven and his parents let us in on that glimpse every day through their photos and advocacy.

There are SO many other Down syndrome awareness accounts that I love and I can’t wait to share more of them in the future. These people encourage me on a daily basis and remind me what advocacy is all about - standing up for our children, for our friends, for strangers, until they’re able to stand on their own and be their own voice in this world.
